Renault Kiger Launch In October; To Challenge Tata Nexon

It’s no secret that Renault India is all set to foray into sub-4-meter SUV space in coming months. The carmaker has been extensive testing the Renault HBC (codename) compact SUV for a while. While its official name is yet to be, it’s likely to be named Renault Kiger. According to a fresh media report, the new subcompact SUV from Renault will see a release just ahead of the 2020 festive season. It’s mostly likely to hit showrooms in the month of October.

The Kiger will face challenge from multiple cars including Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Mahindra XUV300, Ford EcoSport and the upcoming Nissan Magnite. Prices of the model are likely to start from Rs 6 lakh and go up to Rs 8.5 lakh. It will be the smallest Renault SUV in the country. The overall length, width and height of the compact SUV are likely stand at 3995mm, 1750mm and 1600mm respectively.

The new Renault compact SUV will be designed on the CMF-A+ platform that also underpins the Renault Triber and the upcoming Nissan Magnite. Official details of the vehicle are yet to be revealed. It’s likely to come with a touchscreen infotainment system supporting smartphone connectivity along with features such as automatic climate control and steering mounted audio controls.

Reports suggest that the carmaker might also offer a factory-fitted sunroof and connected car features on the model lineup. The compact SUV will carry the signature grille and bumper housed LED headlamps at the front end. Other key elements will include roof rails, big fenders, roof integrated spoiler and LED taillamps. Besides platform, the Renault Kiger will share its powertrain with the Triber compact MPV. That said, it will source power from a 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine delivering power close to 95bhp. The compact SUV lineup will be offered with a 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic gearbox option.
