Renault Kiger HBC (Tata Nexon Rival) Launch Pushed To Early 2021

We reported earlier that Renault will introduce the long-awaited sub-4 meter SUV, codenamed Renault HBC during festive season Diwali. However, the company has now decided to not launch the new SUV this year. Rumoured to be called the Renault Kiger, the compact SUV is now scheduled to be launched in the first quarter of 2021.

The report further claims that the Renault HBC will debut as a concept model in November-December 2020. The launch has been delayed due to sustained supply chain disruption in the Coronavirus time. The Renault Kiger compact SUV will be designed and developed on the Nissan-Renault alliance’s CMF-A modular platform, which will also underpin the upcoming Nissan Magnite. The compact SUV has already been spotted multiple times on the Indian roads. This model will directly rival the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Kia Sonet and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. The Renault Kiger will have family face with more aggressive design elements and upright stance. It will have a V-shaped grille, split headlamp set-up, silver treatment on the grille, dual-tone lower bumper with blackened lower air-inlet and blackened enclosures for the headlamp and fog lamp set-up. The crossover will have floating roofline, roof-integrated spoiler, usable roof-rails, big fenders and LED tail-lights. The SUV is expected to feature 16-inch alloy wheels.

Inside the cabin, the Renault Kiger is likely to offer a large touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity along with connected car technologies, automatic AC, multi-functional steering wheel, etc. The top-spec model will have factory-fitted sunroof and 360 degree camera.

The sub-4 meter SUV will be propelled by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine in NA and turbocharged versions. While the NA unit produces 71bhp and 96Nm of torque, the turbocharged engine produces 99bhp and 160Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic versions are likely to be on offer. The new model is likely to be priced between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 8 lakh.
