Renault Kiger Compact SUV Launch Postponed – Here’s Why & When

Renault’s upcoming subcompact SUV (codenamed – Renault HBC) has been spotted multiple times during its test rounds in the country. While its official name is yet to be announced, the model is likely to be called Renault Kiger. Earlier, the new compact SUV was reported to launch just ahead of this year’s festive season. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic; however, it might be postponed to 2021. One must note that there is no official word on its launch timeline.

The new compact SUV from Renault is estimated to be priced between Rs 6 lakh – Rs 8.5 lakh. If launched in this price range, it will become the most affordable SUV in its segment. The Kiger will lock horns with cars like Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Mahindra XUV300 and the upcoming Kia Sonet.

At the engine front, Renault’s new sub-4 meter SUV will get a 1.0L, 3-cyilder turbo petrol motor with a manual and an AMT gearbox option. The same powertrain will be offered on the Triber MPV model lineup. The power and torque output stand at 99bhp and 160Nm respectively. Read – Renault Triber AMT Coming Soon

Interior of the Renault Kiger will share resemblance to the Triber MPV. Elements such as instrument console, dashboard and central panel will be carried over from the compact MPV. The list of feature might also include a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, automatic climate control and multi function steering wheel. Reports suggest that the Kiger might also come with connected car technology and a sunroof.

Some of its design highlights will be the signature grille, roof rails, pronounced wheel arches and bold side creases. It will be based on the Tiber’s CMF-A+ platform, but have higher ground clearance and a longer wheelbase than its donor sibling.
