The new Renault HBC compact SUV could be previewed in its concept form at the 2018 Auto Expo.
Based on the CMF-A modular platform, the Renault Kwid compact SUV will be positioned between the Kwid hatchback and the Duster.
In October 2017, the French carmaker – Renault confirmed three new Kwid hatchback based models for the Indian market. While the company hasn’t yet revealed the name and details of the products, reports suggest there could be a new compact SUV (HBC) and Kwid electric. Aiming to expand its Indian product lineup, the company will also bring in an all-new 7-seater MPV (RBC) based on the Kwid’s low-cost CMF-A platform. Renault’s new compact MPV that will be positioned against the Maruti Ertiga, will hit our shores in 2019. Similarly, the new Renault Kwid HBC Compact SUV will use the CMF-A platform and rolled out sometime next year.
– According to a latest report, the French carmaker might showcase a sub-4 metre compact SUV in its concept form at the 2018 Auto Expo. Codename Renault HBC, this new SUV will be developed at the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s R&D centre in Chennai. The company has already begun working with the vendors for its new compact SUV, further claims the report.

Renault’s new Kwid-based HBC sub-compact SUV could be previewed in its concept avatar at the 2018 Auto Expo. The event will begin in the second week of next month. The Renault HBC SUV will underpin the low-cost CMF-A modular platform that has already been used in the Kwid hatchback. The entire development of the vehicle will take place at the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s R&D Chennai based facility. This will help the carmaker achieve competitive pricing. Besides sharing its platform and components, Renault’s new sub-compact SUV might borrow the 1000cc engine from the Kwid hatchback. That said, the car might source its power from a 1.0-litre SCe (Smart Control efficiency) DOHC motor delivering power close to 67bhp with 91Nm of torque. As mentioned above, the new sub-4 meter SUV might share its powertrain with the Kwid 1000cc. In the hatchback, this gasoline unit delivers fuel economy of 23.1kmpl.
Design of the HBC compact SUV will be largely similar to the Kwid hatchback. Styling bits such as black front and rear bumpers, roof spoiler, pronounced wheel arches, black body cladding and body-coloured tailgate spoiler could be carried over from the hatchback. Though, it will get bolder stance and a high ground clearance. Visually, it will look more aggressive and sportier than its donor sibling. The interior, too, will be heavily inspired by the Kwid hatchback. It could be equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen display with navigation system, piano black finishing on centre console, chromed air vents, power windows, driver airbags, etc.
