Production Restarts at Hyundai Plant, 200 Cars Rolled Out

On 8th May 2020, Hyundai Motor India’s plant in Sriperumbudur, Chennai has rolled out 200 cars on the first day of production restart. In order to ensure safety of its employees, the carmaker has issued the new safety guidelines and procedures adhering to all local, state & central government guidelines. The carmaker has resumed operations at its Chennai-based facility in phased manner from 6th May.

Hyundai has also revealed that it has received 4000 inquiries and 500 bookings in just 2 days of resuming operations. In fact, the carmaker managed to retail 170 units of the vehicles. The company introduced the all-new Hyundai Creta just a few days before the lockdown. The premium compact SUV received 20,000 bookings so far. Last month, the company shipped over 6,700 units of the new Creta SUV.

Due to COVID-19 crisis, the South Korean carmaker has postponed launch of the new Hyundai Tucson facelift and the new-generation Hyundai i20. Official bookings of the updated Tucson have been commenced before the lockdown. The SUV will come in three trims – GL 2WD, GLS 2WD and GLS 4WD – powered by petrol and diesel engines.

The new Tucson facelift petrol will be packed with a 150bhp, 2.0L motor and the diesel variants will come with a 182bhp, 2.0L oil burner. For performing transmission duties, there will be a 6-speed automatic and an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The SUV will come with three driving modes – Eco, Comfort and Sport.

Talking about the 2020 Hyundai i20, the hatchback was recently spotted without any camouflage. It’s likely to hit showrooms in the month of September. Engine setup of the new i20 will include a 99bhp, 1.5L diesel, a 83bhp, 1.2L naturally-aspirated petrol and a 118bhp, 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol.

The hatchback will come with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox option. A 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox will be exclusively offered with the turbo-petrol engine.
