Production-Ready Kia SP SUV To Get Best-In-Class Features

The Kia SP concept-based SUV might get a 360-degree camera and Wi-Fi.

Kia Motors’ first car for India will be based on the SP concept that broke cover at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. The production version of the premium compact SUV is reported to debut at the 2019 New York Auto Show in April, followed by its launch in August. The Korean carmaker will begin its trail production this month at its Ananthpur facility.

Speaking to Autocar, Manohar Bhat, Head of Marketing and Sales, Kia Motors India, confirmed that the production-ready Kia SP will be packed with best-in-class features. While the official feature details are yet to be revealed, the SUV is likely to get a 360-degree camera, voice recognition and telematics system, WiFi, wireless charging and an advanced touchscreen infotainment system for connectivity purpose. Read: Kia To Launch Maruti Baleno & Honda City Rivals In India

The Kia SP concept based SUV might also receive ventilated front seats and a powered driver’s seat. Features such as a fully digital instrument, an ambient lighting package and Head-up display are likely to be reserved for the top-spec trims. At the engine front, the production-ready Kia SP might get the 1.5L petrol and diesel powertrains. Transmission options will include both manual and automatic units. The automatic variants could also be offered with paddle shifters.

In our market, the Kia SP based SUV will be positioned against the Hyundai Creta, Renault Captur and the upcoming Nissan Kicks. As far as pricing is concerned, the new Kia SUV is said to be priced between Rs 10 lakh – Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom).
