Polo-Sized Volkswagen’s New Electric Hatchback Revealed

German automaker Volkswagen has revealed its all-electric hatchback, the ID.2all concept. The production version of the Volkswagen ID2 electric hatch will cost less than 25,000 euros (less than INR 22 lakh). The production version of the electric model will be based on the MEB Entry platform and is one of 10 new electric models that Volkswagen will launch by 2026. 

The new Volkswagen ID2 is a front-wheel-drive model, which is claimed to offer a range of up to 450km on a single charge. It will come with innovative technological features such as travel assist, IQ.Light or electric vehicle route planner.

Volkswagen has confirmed that the production version of the ID.2all will be introduced in the European market in 2025. With the improved MEB Entry platform, the Volkswagen ID2 electric comes equipped with efficient drive, battery and charging technology. It features a powerful electric drive motor with an output of 166kW or 226 PS and will have a calculated WLTP range of up to 450 kilometres. It is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph in under 7 seconds. 

Volkswagen has not revealed the battery capacity, but charging from 10-80 percent can be achieved in 20 minutes using a DC fast charger. Volkswagen will also give an option of home charging through an 11 kW charger. 

VW ID2 electric concept

The VW ID2 concept measures 4,050mm in length, 1,812mm in width and 1,530mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,600mm. The new model is similar in size as the new-gen Polo on sale in select international markets. The concept was fitted with 20-inch wheels fitted with 225/40 R20 tyres. 

The C-pillar design of the new electric car is similar to the one offered for the first Golf. It comes with an LED light bar spanning its full width in the front. The electric hatch has a straight window line, C-pillar mounted rear door handles, and LED tail-lights with connected bar, and a new rear bumper with a prominent black diffuser. 

VW ID2 Concept interior

The cabin of the Volkswagen ID2 has a clean and clear dashboard layout. It comes equipped with a host of driver and passenger comforts and conveniences. The 5-seater model has a 40:60 split rear seat. It offers a boot space of 490-litres, which can be increased up to 1,330-litres by folding the rear seats. It has a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.9-inch digital driver display, a head-up display or HUD, wireless charging smartphone pad, massaging electric seats and a panoramic sunroof.
