Peugeot DS 7 Crossback Is Coming To India?

Peugeot DS 7 Crossback will rival Volvo XC40, BMW X1 and Audi Q3.

PSA Group (Peugeot, Citroen Motors) had confirmed its India return under joint venture with CK Birla Group by 2021. Prior to its official entry, the carmaker has started testing its premium DS 7 Crossback on the Indian roads. Rumour has it that Peugeot DS 7 Crossback will be positioned against cars like Volvo XC40, BMW X1 and Audi Q3. Dimensionally, though, it’s bigger and more luxurious than most of its rivals.

The Peugeot DS 7 crossover is the first built-from-the-ground-up model from the French carmaker. The Crossback has been designed on PSA’s EMP2 platform that has already been used in the Citroen C5 Aircross and Peugeot 5008 SUVs. Read – Peugeot 208 Hatchback India Launch On The Cards?

Globally, the Peugeot DS 7 Crossback is offered with multiple engine options – a 222hp, 1.6L turbo-petrol, a 130bhp, 1.5L diesel and a 180bhp, 2.0L diesel. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual (standard on the 1.5L diesel variants) and an 8-speed automatic unit (2.0L diesel and 1.6L petrol only).

For performing drivetrain duties, the Peugeot DS 7 Crossback gets FWD (front-wheel-drive) system. The carmaker will introduce a plug-in hybrid variant of the crossover in 2019. With an investment of around Rs 700, Peugeot with CK Birla Group will setup its production facility in Chennai. It’s the same plant that’s being used by Mitsubishi and Hindustan Motors. Recently, both companies inaugurated their greenfield plant for manufacturing and supply eco-friendly powertrain for the global and domestic markets in Hosur, Tamil Nadu.
