Earlier this year, Groupe PSA, the French automaker has announced that it will enter into the Indian market by 2020. The company will assemble and develop its cars for Indian market at Chennai’s facility, which is currently been used to assemble Mitsubishi SUVs. Adding to it, PSA has also owned the Ambassador brand name. If media reports are to be believed, the French maker will launch four new cars – 208 and 308 hatchbacks, 2008 and 3008 SUVs in the Indian market. The Peugeot 2008 SUV will rival against the Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster, while the 3008 will be positioned against the Hyundai Tucson and Jeep Compass.
The current version of the 2008 SUV was unveiled at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. Design elements like grille, sharp headlamps and sculpted bonnet seems inspired from the Peugeot 208 hatchback, which will also go on sale in the Indian market. The SUV will be offered in both petrol and diesel guise. While the petrol version will get a 1.2-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, the oil burner is likely to be a 1.6-litre BlueHDi unit. Transmission options are likely to include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic unit.
Peugeot 2008 India Launch
PSA, the French automaker will officially launch its first car in the Indian market in 2019-2020. The company is yet to make an official announcement on the same, but media reports suggest that the 2008 SUV will go on sale in the country in 2020. The company could showcase this car at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo in February.

This compact SUV will come with two engine options – 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol and 1.6-litre BlueHDi diesel. The gasoline version is capable of producing 109bhp of maximum power and 205Nm of torque. A five-speed manual gearbox driving the power to the front wheels will come as standard, while a six-speed automatic unit could be offered as an optional. On the other hand, the oil burner churns out 120bhp of power and 300Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a 6-speed gearbox.

At the 2016 Paris Motor Show, the French automaker had unveiled the updated version of the Peugeot 2008 compact SUV.
