Tata Nexon EV, the first electric SUV from the home-grown carmaker, has crossed 4,000 sales mark in the country. Since its launch (January 2020), the company retailed a total of 4219 units of the compact SUV. In fact, it was the top-selling electric car in India in 2020. With the help of small electric SUV, Tata claimed a market share of 63.2 per cent. MG ZS EV, which was launched during the same time period, stood at number second with sales of 1142 units. At present, the small Tata electric SUV comes in three variants – XM, XZ+ and XZ+ LUX – priced at Rs 13.99 lakh, Rs 15.39 lakh and Rs 16.39 lakh respectively. The Nexon EV marked debut of Tata’s Ziptron electric technology that’s claimed to offer “efficient high voltage system, zippy performance, long-range, fast charging capability, battery with a warranty of 8 years, and adherence to IP67 standard”.
The Tata Nexon EV comes with a permanent magnet AC motor powered by a Lithium-Ion battery that’s resistant to water and dust. It has a 30.2 kWh battery promising a range of over 312km on a full charge. The electric motor pushes out a peak power of 129bhp and 245Nm of torque. The electric SUV is capable to do 0 to 100kmph in 9.9 seconds. Its battery takes 60 minutes to charge up to 80% via a fast charger and 8-9 hours via a standard power socket.
The small electric SUV has been boosted with the Battery Management System (BMS) that ensures an extended battery life. The company is providing an 8-year/1,60,000km warranty on the battery and electric motor. The subcompact SUV comes with a standard 3-year/1.25 lakh kilometre warranty and a 5-year extended warranty pack. The company aims to expand its electric product portfolio in coming years. The range is likely to include electric versions of the Altroz premium hatchback, Safari SUV and the upcoming HBX mini SUV.
