Nissan Magnite Launch Delayed – Here’s When & Why

Nissan recently revealed its plan to launch 12 new models globally by the end of 2021. The Japanese carmaker also released a teaser video giving a glimpse of the upcoming models including the all-new Nissan Magnite subcompact SUV. Featuring bolder and unique front design, the Magnite was ready to make its way to India in August, 2020. According to Autocar, its launch has been postponed to January, 2021.

There are two reasons behind this delay. Firstly, the carmaker’s production plan has been disturbed at the Renault-Nissan Alliance Oragadam based plant due to the lockdown. Secondly, the automobile industry has been going through one of its toughest time ever and the market sentiments aren’t in favour. Therefore, Nissan believes it would be better to bring in its important product (Magnite) a bit later.

Nissan Magnite New Teaser

Designed on the CMF-A modular platform, the Nissan Magnite will be offered with petrol engine only. The compact SUV will use a 1.0L gasoline motor generating two different power outputs. Its naturally aspirated version will deliver power worth 71bhp against 96Nm, and the turbocharged unit will be good enough for 99bhp and 160Nm. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be on offer.

The latest teaser video shows the crossover-like stance of the model. The Magnite will also feature a hexagonal grille flanked by large intakes, LED headlamps and L-shaped LED DRLs, pronounced wheel arches and black cladding. As of now, interior details are not available. Though, reports suggest that the new compact SUV from Nissan will offer a 360 degree parking camera, automatic climate control and connected car technology. It might also be one of the most affordable small SUV to offer a sunroof.

Prices of the Nissan Magnite are likely to start from Rs 5.25 lakh for the entry-level variant. Rumour has it that its turbo-petrol CVT variant might be priced below Rs 6 lakh. Once launched, Nissan’s new compact SUV will take on multiple upcoming products right from Renault Kiger, Tata HBX to Kia Sonet.
