Nissan Kicks SUV Testing Begins In India; Launch Early Next Year

In India, the Nissan Kicks SUV will be stacked up against the Hyundai Creta and the Renault Captur/Duster.

Nissan has confirmed the Kicks compact SUV for the Indian market. Reports suggest that the launch of the vehicle will take place in January, 2019. In fact, the Japanese carmaker has started testing the SUV on Indian roads. Recently, a test mule of the Nissan Kicks compact SUV caught on camera on Nilgiri mountain roads.

To be positioned against the Hyundai Creta and Renault Captur/Duster, the India-spec Nissan Kicks SUV will look slightly different from the global model. While the global version is based on the V platform, the India-spec model will make use of Dacia’s low-cost B0 platform. The latter also underpins the Renault Capture/ Duster and the Nissan Terrano. Besides sharing its platform, the Nissan Kicks SUV is likely to share its engines and transmissions with the Nissan Terrano. Reports suggest that it might be offered with a 1.5-litre H4K petrol and a 1.5-litre K9K dCi diesel engine options. The Nissan Kicks has achieved four star safety rating in the Latin NCAP crash test.  Globally, the Kicks comes loaded with a range of advanced safety fitments including dynamic brake control, active ride stabilizer, moving object detection, active engine brake, collision alert with intelligent braking assistant, active trace control, etc.

In India, the Kicks SUV is likely to be offered with the standard dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, engine immobilizer and brake assist. The range-topping variant could be exclusively offered with ESP with traction control, decent assist and hill launch safety fitments.
