It is expected that Nissan will introduce the Kicks compact SUV with two engine options – 1.5-litre H4 petrol and 1.5-litre K9K diesel.

Japanese automaker, Nissan is trying hard to improve its share in the highly competitive Indian auto market. The company’s low-cost brand – Datsun too is struggling to improve Nissan’s total sales. Though, Nissan is still banking on Datsun to further boost its sales. If latest media reports are to be believed, the company will soon roll out an all-new product under Datsun nameplate. Adding to it, the long-awaited Kicks compact SUV will also go on sale towards the end of this year.

Nissan last launched an all-new product in India was Nissan GT-R in December 2016. No new models have been launched since then, as Nissan shifted focus to establish its low-cost brand – Datsun. According to Business Standard report, Nissan will be the brand’s first high-volume new product after five years in the country. The company had introduced the Terrano SUV in 2013. Talking about Kicks, the compact SUV was first introduced in the Brazilian markets in 2016. The global Nissan Kicks is based on Nissan’s V platform that also underpins the India-spec Micra hatch. However, the India-bound Kicks will be developed on the heavily localised Duster’s MO platform that also underpins the Nissan Terrano, Renault Duster and Renault Captur. It is expected that Nissan will introduce the Kicks compact SUV with two engine options – 1.5-litre H4 petrol and 1.5-litre K9K diesel. While the petrol engine is good for 104bhp and 142Nm of torque, the diesel version is capable of producing 108bhp and 240Nm of torque. For transmission duties, the SUV will get a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed manual unit. It is also expected to come with an AWD system. The Nissan Kicks will rival the likes of Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Renault Captur, Honda BR-V and others in its category.
