Japanese automaker, Nissan is trying hard to improve its sales in the Indian car market. The company is giving huge discounts on its cars to bring customers to dealerships. Besides this, Nissan is also working on a range of new cars for the Indian market. Its low cost brand – Datsun will soon launch an all-new sub-4 meter SUV in India to challenge the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza and Tata Nexon. – Duster’s Platform
Nissan Kicks is already on sale in select international markets including Brazil. The global model is based on the Nissan’s V platform that also underpins the Micra and Sunny. However, the India-spec model will be based on the heavily localised Duster’s platform. This will help Nissan to price this new SUV competitively.

– Hyundai Creta Challenger
This SUV will replace the existing Terrano SUV, which failed to generate volumes for the automaker. With Kicks, Nissan will aim to tap the growing demand for the 5-seater premium SUVs. It will directly rival the Hyundai Creta, which is currently being the best-selling model in its category. Besides Creta, the Kicks will rival the Renault Captur and the Jeep Compass. – Shares engine with the Terrano
Not just platform, the Kicks will also share its engine and transmissions with Renault Captur/Duster. This means, it will be powered by the tried & tested 1.5-litre K9K diesel and 1.5-litre petrol engines.
– To share styling from Brazilian model
The India-spec Kicks will share most of the design cues from the Brazilian model. This model sports bold stance, featuring aggressive and sporty front fascia. It gets a honeycomb grille with chrome surroundings, angular sweptback headlamps with LED signature, bold bumper, floating roof with dual-tone paint scheme, prominent character lines, muscular rear bumper and ‘boomerang’ tail-lights. – Launch Before March 2019
Nissan officials have confirmed that the Kicks compact SUV will go on sale before the end of this financial year. A possible launch in the first quarter of 2019 can’t be ignored. Few media reports suggest that the launch could take place in the last quarter of 2018.
