New Nissan Qashqai Crossover

Nissan India has recently phased out its flagship SUV, X-Trail from the Indian car market. Now, speculations are rife that the company is planning to introduce the new generation Qashqai crossover in the country. First launched in 2007, the company has recently revamped the crossover which has already been on sale in several international markets.

Nissan Qashqai engine specifications

The Qashqai crossover is offered in two petrol and two diesel engine options. Gasoline options include the 1.2-litre DIG-T engine that churns out 115PS and 190Nm of top torque and 1.6 DIG-T that produces 150PS and 240Nm of torque. The oil burner gets the 1.5-litre dCi engine (that also does its duty in the Terrano) produces 110PS and a 1.6-litre dCi engine that is capable of producing 130PS of top power. All engines are coupled to a six-speed manual transmission gearbox, while a newly developed Xtronic transmission gearbox for petrol version.

The crossover gets evolved with times and this time the crossover gets new front and rear fascia, along with more sculpted side profile. At the front, the vehicle gets new V-shaped grille, wrap-around front headlamp cluster and a clamshell bonnet. The rear profile of the Qashqai crossover gets Nissan’s ‘Boomerang’ lights.

The new generation Qashqai crossover is 20mm wider, 49mm longer and 15mm lower than the previous generation model, while the headroom height increased by 10mm. The body appears stiffer with aggressive curves and bold lines running across the length. Its beefed-up wheel arches have been fitted to 19-inch alloy wheels. It has a drag co-efficient of 0.32 thanks to better aerodynamics, which in returns offers lower CO2 emissions, improved fuel efficiency and improved stability at speed.

Inside the cabin, the vehicle gets several comfort, convenience and safety features. The gadget section gets improved, as the switching on three-flash indicators to fasten the audio headlights switch on and others. The meter display is positioned between the analogue speedometer and tachometer which shows menus and other information. The muti-functional steering wheel has all the controls for music and other features. It offers an impressive boot space of 430-litres, while the headroom, legroom and shoulder room has also increased. The tailgate can be opened by up to 150-litres which further make it easy to carry luggage.

The top-of-the line models are equipped with leather and Alcantara trim which make its look premium. The standard equipment levels include air conditioning, 16-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth connectivity and start-stop functions. The base spec models gets automatic AC, hill start assist, a five-inch colour HD infotainment screen, chassis control, tyre pressure monitoring system and speed limiter/cruise control. The top spec models has new generation NissanConnect infotainment system with DAB radio, rear view camera, parking sensors, a panoramic glass roof and i-key start push button.

When it comes to safety, the vehicle gets front collision avoidance which scans the road ahead to inform the driver, driver attention support during drowsiness, traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning, moving object detection, blind spot warning and high beam assist.

The chassis and suspension mechanism has been reworked that feature McPherson struts at the front and a twist-beam design at the rear (2WD) or multi-link system (AWD). The vehicle also gets newly formulated steering wheel which offers improved response. The all-wheel drive also gets Chassis Control system that includes Active Ride Control which controls fluctuations, Active Engine Brake to improve braking on corners.

Nissan Qashqai expected price and launch date in India

Nissan India is likely to introduce the Qashqai crossover by the 2015 in the Indian car market. It will be positioned against the likes of Mahindra XUV500 and Skoda Yeti, and is likely to be priced in the range of Rs. 16-20 lakh.
