Next generation Volkswagen Passat sedan sketches revealed

We reported earlier that Volkswagen is working on an all-new generation Passat sedan, which has recently been spotted during its test rounds in Europe. The sketch images of this sedan have surfaced on the web world. The sketches show that the new generation model will get a sportier and coupe like stance.

The new Passat is bigger in size compared to the current generation model. It will be based on Volkswagen’s popular Modular Matrix (MQB) platform on which many cars from Audi, Skoda and other VW group companies. The vehicle gets a new front fascia which resembles the Volkswagen’s CrossBlue Coupe and T-Roc concepts. Its grille and headlights are merged into a striking V-shaped wing. The prominent grille stretched and meets the newly formulated headlights, while there is a single chrome line running above the fog lamp assembly which adds to its sporty character.

The side profile of the new generation Passat features a flared wheel arches, lesser greenhouse area, low slung and aerodynamic creases that resembles to a four-door coupe. At the back, the sedan is equipped with a dual exhaust system and unique headlamp assembly.

The new generation Passat is expected to be powered by a new twin-turbo 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder TDI engine that churns out a maximum power output of 237bhp and a peak torque of 500Nm. Power is transmitted to all-wheel drive system via a seven-speed DSG transmission. It is also likely to get a plug-in hybrid variant as well, which will get a 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine and a 100bhp electric motor.

The new generation VW Passat will also make its way to the Indian market. However, the vehicle is expected to get the current engine lineup instead of aforementioned engines.
