New Maruti Suzuki Swift Launching At Auto Expo 2018

New Maruti Swift 2017

New Maruti Swift 2017’s price in India is likely to fall between Rs 5 lakh – Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom).

After launching some crucial models this year, India’s leading auto maker, Maruti Suzuki is set to launch its flagship hatchback, Swift in an all new avatar early next year. While before that, the company may roll out some facelifts, but the all new Maruti Swift 2017 remains the most awaited model from the company next year. The auto industry is abuzz with Swift getting launched at the 2018 Auto Expo, in February. With its sedan sibling (Dzire) already out for retail, we have a fair idea about the changes and while there is still some time for the all-new Swift to be rolled out officially, its hybrid version was recently spotted in India. This gives us hope that the more fuel-efficient hybrid version could come to India, albeit Maruti Suzuki is yet to reveal plans for adding Swift hybrid to its line-up.

Maruti Swift is not only one of most popular choices in the segment, but it is also among the top-selling models from the company. With this generation leap, the company is eyeing to further strengthen its hold in the segment. That said, the newer models are aesthetically appealing and pack in plethora of tech and connectivity bits. While Swift still enjoys good demand among B segment customers, the car misses out on some features that are now offered on most of the cars.

Maruti has also altered the proportions, as it sits on 20mm longer wheelbase and the new HEARTECT underpinnings make it lighter by around 100kg. With substantial reduction in weight, the new 2017 Swift is expected to be more frugal. Prominent changes will be made to the design and styling of the hatchback for enhanced aesthetics. The new elements not only help transform the look, but also give it a premium touch both on the outside and inside.

Most of the changes have been made to the front as it sports a new hexagonal grille with a thick chrome lining. The headlamps units also boast of a new design, the fog lamps on the revised bumper are new and it also features wider air-dams. The cabin will be better equipped and there will be a stark change in the material quality, fit and finish for a more upmarket look.

There will be no change in terms of engine set up, which means the new Swift 2017 will continue sourcing power from the 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine and 1.3-litre DDiS oil burner. Although, these engines will be calibrated for better fuel economy. In terms of power, Maruti’s K-Series petrol engine makes 83bhp against 115Nm torque and the Fiat sourced diesel engine puts out 74bhp with 190Nm. Reports in media suggest that the new Swift could also receive Maruti’s 100.5bhp, 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged Boosterjet engine that currently powers Baleno RS. The five-speed manual gearbox from the current model will be carried over and it could additionally come with an AMT along with a CVT.

With the paradigm shift to SUVs and invent of newer segment, customers have been spoilt for choice. Nevertheless, hatchbacks are still in demand and are unlikely to see a drop, in terms of popularity. Case in point, Swift was first launched in 2005 and despite two generation leaps and several facelifts, it is among the top-selling cars in the segment. The new dose of updates will hopefully further push sales and bring it on par with rivalling models. Check Out – 2017 Maruti Suzuki Swift Photo Gallery
