It is no secret that Toyota is working on the next gen Fortuner SUV, which is likely to be introduced globally in 2024-25. The new model will be based on a new platform and will come with hybrid powertrains. The Japanese brand had released the first teaser of its next-gen Tacoma pickup for the North American markets. For people not in the know, Toyota is selling Hilux pick-up with the Tacoma nameplate in North America.
The new Toyota Tacoma is likely to be based on an all-new platform, new hybrid powertrains and more features. The next-gen Toyota Fortuner is most likely to share underpinnings and the styling cues from the new Tacoma. The patent images reveal that the new pick-up will share the styling cues from new Toyota SUVs including the Land Cruise 300, the Sequoia and the Tundra pickup.
The patent images reveal that the new model will have rugged looks with some Tundra’s styling elements. It has a wide front grille with aggressive headlights and vertical intakes. The rectangular shaped fog lamps are placed on the lower bumper. The pick-up will have strong creases on the hood and fenders, C-shaped tail-lamps and off-road specific alloys.
The next-gen Tacoma and the Fortuner will come with an all-new interior with more modern features. The dashboard layout will be all-new and will hold a large touchscreen infotainment system and a digital instrument console. The next-gen Toyota Fortuner will also come with several advanced features like a panoramic sunroof, powered seats, dual-zone climate control and others.
The next gen Toyota Fortuner will be designed and developed on Toyota’s TNGA-F architecture that underpins the larger Tundra, Land Cruiser J300, Lexus LX, and Toyota Sequoia. This platform supports a wheelbase length of 2,850-4,180mm. The SUV is likely to receive a new 2.4-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 265bhp. It could also get a 2.4L 4-cylinder hybrid turbo petrol engine, which powers few global Lexus and Toyota models.
The next gen Toyota Fortuner will also come with a new diesel engine with a mild hybrid system. It will get the 1GD-FTV 2.8L diesel engine with an integrated starter generator. Rumoured to be called GD Hybrid, the new diesel engine is likely to offer higher fuel efficiency and added torque on demand.
