Tata Safari Storme 2018

Next-gen Tata Safari 7-seater premium SUV could be based on Tata’s new OMEGA platform.

How about a next-gen Tata Safari based on Tata’s new OMEGA Platform? Yes, Tata could introduce the next-gen Safari based on the new OMEGA platform. In fact, Tata has officially confirmed that bigger SUVs and sedans will use the new Harrier’s OMEGA platform. “Safari” is one of the most popular nameplates in India. However, Tata hasn’t really made any significant changes to its styling and even mechanically since its launch in 1998. Tata had launched the more modernised version of the SUV in 2012, which is currently on sale as Safari Storme. However, this model failed to generate volumes for the brand.

With better interiors, new design and efficient powertrain, the next-gen Safari could be a huge hit in the market. The new Tata OMEGA’s platform is borrowed from Land Rover’s D8 architecture, which also underpins the Discovery SUV. The next-gen Safari could be launched as a premium 7-seater SUV. In fact, Tata is also working on a 7-seater Harrier which could be launched as new Safari. Though, Tata hasn’t made anything official on the same. Read – Tata Harrier Launch, Price & Other Details

Tata will source the Jeep’s 2.0-litre multi-jet turbocharged diesel engine to power the upcoming Harrier. This engine is capable of producing 170bhp of power and 350Nm of torque. A more powerful and efficient Tata Safari Storme could be a big challenger to Mahindra XUV500 and even Honda CR-V. For people not in the know, Hyundai is also working on the 7-seater Tucson and Creta for Indian market.
