Reports further claims that production of the outgoing Jimny has finally been ended as the Japanese brand is now retooling before introducing the new model. Less than 200 units of the SUV are left in stock. Going by the leaked images, the new Suzuki Jimny looks like a mini G-Class. This model will continue to feature the existing body-on-frame chassis and 4×4 system with low-gearing, which suggests that the next model will remain a proper off-roader. The mini off-roader will first go on sale in the Japanese market, followed by Europe. The company aims to increase European sales by 20 per cent by introducing a better equipped Jimny. The retro-flavored boxy shape will continue to be offered with the next model. Inside the cabin, the mini SUV will share features and components from the Swift. It will also get Suzuki’s new Smartplay infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The 2019 Suzuki Jimny will be offered with two petrol engines – 1.2-litre K-Series petrol and 1.0-litre Boosterjet unit. The turbocharged 1.0-litre Boosterjet engine is capable of producing a maximum power output of 110bhp and a peak torque of 170Nm. Suzuki won’t offer diesel option with the Jimny.

Maruti Suzuki is also considering next-generation Gypsy off-roader for the Indian market. If reports are to be believed, MSI is considering the next Jimny as a lifestyle product. Suzuki’s Gujarat based plant could also serve as a global production hub. The India-spec model is likely to use the 1.0-litre Boosterjet engine.
