We reported earlier that Mitsubishi is planning to re-introduce the iconic Lancer nameplate. The Mitsubishi Lancer was discontinued in 2015; however, the sedan still carries a huge fan following among enthusiasts. It is reported that the next-gen Mitsubishi Lancer could be introduced as a high-performance hatchback or a sedan.
Digital Artist, Enoch Gonzales has released new renderings showing the possible design of the next generation Mitsubishi Lancer. The render has an aggressive design with wider, rectangular grille flanked by two thin headlights. The headlamp unit seems covered by the hood. There is a small lip spoiler that adds a sporty character.
The new Lancer projection reveals sharp creases at the rear, large rear fenders and a large crease at the bottom of the rear doors. The rear looks simple and clean, featuring illuminated element that runs across the width. The dual tailpipes with black finish gives it a sporty look.
The next-gen Mitsubishi Lancer is likely to share platform and powertrains with the Renault-Nissan Alliance cars. The new model could use the Alliance’s CMF-CD F4 modular design platform. It is likely to share the engine with the next-gen Renault Megane RS.
It is likely to get a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine producing 340PS and 420Nm of torque. The previous generation EVO X was equipped with a 2.0L turbocharged engine producing 294PS and 366Nm of torque.
The next-gen Mitsubishi Lancer is expected to feature the Mitsubishi’s famous S-AWC all-wheel-drive system. It is likely to get a dual-clutch automatic gearbox. In 2020, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance announced a new business strategy. The Japanese brand will focus on Southeast Asia and Oceania regions.
