Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio Launch in First Half of 2021
Homegrown UV maker, Mahindra has officially announced that the long-awaited next-gen Scorpio and the new XUV500 will not go on sale in 2020. The company will launch the next-gen Scorpio in the second quarter of 2021, while the next XUV500 will arrive in the first quarter of 2021. The next-gen Mahindra Scorpio will receive significant design changes and new interior along with new set of engines.
The next-gen Mahindra Scorpio will be powered by a newly developed turbocharged diesel engine, which will also power the XUV500 and the Thar. This new engine will offer 3 different states of tunes. While powering the Scorpio, the new turbo diesel engine is likely to produce around 160bhp of power and over 350Nm of torque. It will receive a newly developed 6-speed manual gearbox along with a 4WD system as optional.
The next-gen Mahindra Scorpio will be powered by a new 2.0-litre mStallion turbocharged petrol engine, which is capable of producing 190bhp of power and 380Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. Also See – Upcoming Mahindra Cars
The next-gen Scorpio will be designed and developed on the modified version of the body-on-ladder frame, called the ZEN3. This platform will also underpin the new-gen Thar. The new model will grow in size, offering more space inside the cabin. It will also receive front-facing third-row of seats. The SUV will also receive improved quality of plastic material and fit and finish. It is expected that the new model will share some of its interior components including steering wheel, gear knob and instrument console with the Marazzo MPV. This will help the brand to keep costs in check. In terms of features, the SUV will receive new touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, leather seats, Head-up display and an electric sunroof.
