Honda has started testing the second generation HR-V mid-sized SUV in Europe, and these are the first spy images. The spotted model was heavily camouflaged, but it reveals some interesting details about the styling. The Next-Gen Honda HR-V is scheduled to make global debut in March 2021, while the Japanese release is expected in May 2021.
Next-Gen Honda HR-V – All-New Design
The spy shots confirm that the second generation Honda HR-V comes with all-new styling, which is a major departure from the previous model in terms of design. The SUV comes with an all-new front fascia, which has similarities with the next-gen Civic.
The second generation Honda HR-V features a wide grille and flatter headlamps. The headlamp design is sleeker, featuring LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps). There is an evolutionary front bumper with a mesh intake, which is flanked by LED fog lamps. The front profile has broad face and flatter hood.
The camouflaged images reveal that the next-gen Honda HR-V will grow in size, and features less aggressive lines and creases. It is also visible that the SUV has a flatter beltline, familiar rear door handles and outside rear view mirrors with integrated blinkers are mounted on the doors.
It features usable roof-rails, sloping roofline, roof-integrated spoiler and big black-colour alloys. The major changes are made to the back, which has a rakish rear window and an angular C-pillar. A crossover coupe-like profile is clearly visible in the spy images. The SUV has flatter body, featuring flush bumper and LED tail-lights that are slimmer than before.
Bigger Than Before
The 2021 Honda HR-V is expected to measure around 4.4 meters in length, which will make it significantly bigger than the outgoing model. The SUV will be positioned against the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson and the Toyota Corolla Cross.
The new Honda HR-V is expected to be based on the new Honda Architecture and feature engines sourced from the upcoming Civic. However, few reports claim that the new model could use the updated version of the existing platform that also underpins the new-gen Fit hatch,. The platform has been updated to achieve higher stiffness and reduced weight.
The 2021 Honda HR-V is expected to feature a strong hybrid powertrain, which is called e:HEV. This powertrain uses a 1.5-lirtre petrol engine and two electric motors. This is the same hybrid unit that powers the new-gen Fit and the City sedan. The hatchback achieves up to 80kmph with the use of the electric motor. For greater power, the petrol engine starts to work to transmit the rotation to the second electric motor, which is called the generation engine.
