New Volkswagen SUV (Hyundai Venue Rival) to Debut in November

It is no secret that Volkswagen is rapidly increasing its SUV portfolio globally. The company will soon introduce a new compact SUV, called the Nivus in the international markets. Interestingly, the German automaker is reportedly working on an all-new sub-4 meter SUV, codenamed VW246. The new model is scheduled to be unveiled in concept avatar at the 2020 Sao Paulo Motor Show in November.

Internally called new VW Gol, the new sub-4 meter SUV could be called the VW T-Track. The SUV will have high ground clearance, more upright front design and typical SUV-like body shape. What’s interesting is that the new compact SUV will be based on the MQB AO IN platform, which underpins the VW Taigun. Unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo, the Taigun will be launched in India in 2021.

The MQB AO IN platform will be modified to accommodate a sub-4 meter SUV. It will ride on a smaller wheelbase. For reference, the Taigun has a wheelbase of 2,651mm and it measures above 4 meter in length.

The report claims that the Volkswagen VW246 SUV will be offered with 170 TSI or 200 TSI 1.0-litre flex-fuel engine. While the former is good for 105PS and 165Nm of torque, the 200 TSI engine produces 128PS and 200Nm of torque. 

The Volkswagen sub-4 meter SUV will also go on sale in the European market. However, he European-spec model will be based on the MQB AO platform. The SUV will be launched in the Brazilian market in the first half of 2022. The sub-4 meter SUV is also expected to be launched in our market. It will take on the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Vitara Brezza and the upcoming Kia Sonet.
