Recently, the new 2022 Volkswagen Polo was caught on camera during its test rounds on European roads. The spy pictures reveal that the updated model will receive newly-designed headlamps and taillamps similar to the Mk8 Volkswagen Golf. The hatchback is likely to get revised front and rear bumpers, a new set of wheels and a few more cosmetic changes. Interior might also witness some noticeable upgrades.
One of the biggest changes, however, will come in the form of the mild hybrid powertrain. The 2022 Volkswagen Polo is reported to be offered with an eTSI petro-electric mild hybrid system. At present in its global portfolio, the German carmaker has 1.0L eTSI (110PS/200Nm) and 1.5L eTSI (131PS/200Nm and 150PS/250Nm) engines. Its mild hybrid system includes a 48V lithium-ion battery and a belt-driven starter alternator.
The new Polo hatchback might make its European debut in the second half of 2021, followed by its launch. If reports are to be believed, the German carmaker might bring in the new-generation Volkswagen Polo in India sometime next year. Details of the new model are still unknown to us.
In other updates, Volkswagen India is planning to launch the Taigun SUV to challenge dominance of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. In fact, the carmaker has started teasing the model ahead of its official debut. It will be the brand’s first production model to be based on Volkswagen Groups’ MQB A0 IN platform. While some of its design bits seem inspired by the global-spec VW T-Cross, it’s bigger than its sibling.
Reports suggest that Volkswagen is working on a new sub-4 metre SUV (codenamed VW246) that will be put up against the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Vitara Brezza and the newly-launched Kia Sonet. It will be based on the MQB A0 IN platform and is likely to be offered with 170 TSI or 200 TSI 1.0L flex-fuel engine.
