New Volkswagen Gol Subcompact SUV In The Works – Rendered

We reported earlier that Volkswagen is preparing a new subcompact SUV, which will be positioned below the Taigun SUV in the country. Brazilian media reports that next-gen Volkswagen Gol will be a subcompact SUV. Internally called the 246, the new VW SUV is expected to be launched in the 2024-25. In the global markets, the new model will be positioned below the Nivus and will target growing markets.

The new compact SUV has been rendered with Volkswagen’s latest visual language. Compared to the existing Gol, the next-gen model will be bigger and much more technological car. The rendering pictures show that the SUV borrows design elements from the Nivus. It has full-LED headlights and vertically placed fog lamps along with bumper appliques in a contrasting tone with the body paint.

Prominent creases are visible at the height of the handles, while the wheel arches have plastic cladding for rugged feel. At the back, the tail-lights are interconnected by a light bar with design inspiration from Volkswagen’s electric SUVs.

The new Volkswagen Gol subcompact SUV will be based on the MQB AO platform that underpins the Polo, T-Cross, Virtus and the Nivus. The India-spec VW subcompact SUV will be based on the heavily localised MQB AO IN platform that is used to develop the Taigun, Virtus, Skoda Kushaq and the Slavia.

The new model will share several components with the new-gen Volkswagen SUVs including the T-Cross and the Taigun. The Gol compact SUV is expected to share several components with the new-gen Skoda Fabia and the VW Nivus.

The report claims that Volkswagen could use the front structure and the front doors of the new Skoda Fabia to reduce development costs. Interestingly, Skoda will also have its own version of the SUV and will be launched in Europe and India. Most of the features and components with the the Nivus coupe SUV.

The new compact SUV will be powered by a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that offers two states of tunes – 116bhp and 165Nm, and 128bhp and 200Nm. Both manual and automatic transmission options will be on offer.
