It is no secret that Toyota and Suzuki are jointly developing a wide range of new models for the Indian market. The Japanese automaker will soon launch the new Urban Cruiser Hyryder, which is based on Suzuki’s Global-C platform. It is expected that Toyota and Suzuki joint venture is also preparing a new SUV Coupe, which has already been spotted testing multiple times.
Codenamed Maruti YTB, the new SUV Coupe will be introduced at the 2023 Auto Expo in January. It is expected that Toyota will also launch its own version of the SUV Coupe, which is expected to be launched in 2023. Interestingly, Toyota is testing the Yaris Cross on the Indian roads. And, the new SUV Coupe is likely to share some of the styling cues from the global Yaris Cross.
The new SUV Coupe will be designed and developed on Suzuki’s lightweight HEARTECT platform, which underpins the new Baleno and the Glanza. In fact, the new Maruti YTB Coupe SUV is reportedly to be called the Maruti Baleno Cross. The recent sightings reveal that the new Toyota Coupe SUV has a raked window line with a shorter rear quarter glass. It has an angular roof-mounted spoiler and the boot lid seems longer as compared to Maruti’s Coupe SUV.
The front design of the new Toyota SUV Coupe is likely to share cues from the new Hyryder and the Glanza. The SUV Coupe will also have differently styled alloy wheels. The rear profile will have similarities with the global Yaris Cross. It is expected to be equipped with several high-end features like a 360 degree camera, a heads-up display or HUD, an electric sunroof, a 9-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connectivity, automatic AC with rear AC vents and others.
It is expected to be powered by a new Suzuki’s 1.0-litre Boosterjet petrol engine, which will debut in the Maruti YTB SUV Coupe. This engine will also come with a higher degree of electrification. It could also receive a 1.5L K15C petrol engine with a mild-hybrid system. Both manual and automatic gearbox options will be on offer.
