New Toyota Hyryder SUV – What We Know So Far

Toyota Kirloskar Motor, the Indian arm of the Japanese automaker, will introduce two major products by the end of this year. The plan outlines a new mid-size SUV and the new-generation Toyota Innova. Both models are reported to come with hybrid powertrain. While the new Toyota SUV will arrive before 2022 Diwali season, the all-new Innova is likely to come towards the end of this year. The carmaker recently trademarked ‘Toyota Hyryder’ nameplate in India, which is reported to be used for the upcoming mid-size SUV. Here’re key details we know so far about the new Toyota SUV.

– Toyota’s new SUV will challenge the dominance of the Hyundai Creta in the mid-size SUV segment. It will also take on the Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun.

– It will be the first model to be produced under Toyota and Suzuki joint venture and have combination of suppliers from both companies. While Toyota will provide some critical components and systems, most of the suppliers will be from the Indo-Japanese carmaker.

– The model will be built on the modified and localized version of Toyota’s TNGA-B (or DNGA) platform.

– As mentioned above, the new Toyota Hyryder SUV will come with hybrid powertrain including two petrol engines with mild and strong hybrid tech. – Design and styling of the new Toyota SUV could be inspired by the global-spec Toyota Corolla Cross. It will look different from its Maruti Suzuki’s counterpart. The model will carry Toyota’s signature grille (positioned slightly lower, high-mounted wraparound LED strips and headlamps at the front end. Design elements such as a rising shoulder crease, squared-off wheel arches and bulged rear doors will add more to SUV-ish looks.

– The upcoming Toyota Hyryder SUV is likely to be offered with features such as cooled seats, connected car tech, wireless smartphone charging, a touchscreen infotainment system with the latest smartphone connectivity, sunroof and more.
