New Toyota Fortuner Unveiled With Bolder Design, More Power

The new Toyota Fortuner gets a 201bhp, 2.8-litre turbocharged diesel engine with manual and automatic gearboxes.

Japanese automaker, Toyota has finally unveiled the much-awaited Fortuner facelift. The new model has received new front and rear design, more powerful engine and an increase in towing capacity. The new Toyota Fortuner will be launched in India before the end of this year, most likely before Diwali.

This is the biggest update to the Toyota Fortuner since its first introduction in 2015. The company will first launch the SUV in Australia and other South Asian markets including Thailand. The company has also revealed the updated Toyota Hilux.

New Fortuner Specs

The new Toyota Fortuner and the Hilux are powered by the 2.8-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder diesel engine that is capable of producing 201bhp of power and 500Nm of torque. The engine now offers 27bhp higher power and 50Nm higher torque (current output 174bhp and 450Nm). Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. Towing capacity of the Fortuner facelift is now rated at 3000kg for manual and 2800kg for the automatic.

The overall profile of the new Toyota Fortuner remains the same, but it gets new bolder front profile. It gets new front grille that inspired by the global Toyota SUVs including the RAV4 and the Raize. The SUV gets slimmer upper grille with Toyota logo placed in the centre and larger lower air-dam. Blackened treatment can be seen on the grille patterns, while the headlamp and fog lamp design have also been altered.

The new Toyota Fortuner gains new bold front and rear bumpers along with new set of alloy wheels. The SUV gets new skid plate design, more prominent foglamp bezels and new LED tail-lamps. In the Australian market, the SUV will be offered in 3 variants – GX, GXL and Crusade. It also gets newly styled 18-20-inch alloy wheels and new side steps.

Inside the cabin, the Fortuner gets newly developed touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. The SUV could also receive a digital instrument console. Other features include 360 degree surround view camera, automatic boot opener, wireless phone charging, etc.

The new model also gets Toyota safety sense, which includes collision and automatic brakes pre-collision system, lane departure warning system with automatic steering wheel delay, lane keeping assist and variable automatic speed control system, and dynamic radar cruise control.

The India-spec model will also receive the 2.7-litre turbocharged petrol engine that is engine is capable of producing 164bhp of power at 5,200rpm and 245Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. Transmission choices include a 5-speed MT and a 6-speed AT.
