With the implementation of ‘GST’, the auto manufacturers has begun passing on the benefits to customers from July 1, 2017. While luxury cars, sedans and utility vehicles are the major beneficiaries of the new tax system, the small cars have witnessed marginal tax reduction. In line with the new tax norms, Toyota Kirloskar Motor has reduced prices of the new Fortuner (up to Rs 2.17 lakh), Innova Crysta (up to Rs 98,500), new toyota Corolla Altis 2017 (up to Rs 92,500), Platinum Etios and Etios Liva. One must note that the vehicles’ prices will vary state, model and variant-wise.
Launched in March 2017, the new Toyota Corolla Altis facelift received significant cosmetic and feature updates along with a few mechanical changes. Designed on Toyota’s new ‘Under Priority and Keen Look’ design language, the facelifted model features sharper front fascia with new 3D bumper, slimmer grille bi-beam LED headlamps, LED DRLs and re-designed bonnet. Other key highlights include new alloys, LED tail lamps, and thinner chrome strip. Cabin is quieter and more upmarket than before. For enhancing its connectivity levels, Toyota offers a new touch 2 system with navigation and a 4.2-inch MID display with updated software.
The new Toyota Corolla Altis also gets a new ‘Phantom Brown’ colour. Brimming with a lots new safety and security equipment, the saloon’s new model is safer than before. Mechanically, the saloon receives refined electric steering and tweaked suspension system. Engine setup for the facelifted Corolla remains unchanged. Welcoming the new tax system, Toyota has reduced prices of its products including Fortuner, Innova Crysta, Platinum Etios, Etios Liva and Corolla Altis. For 2017, Toyota’s premium sedan – Corolla Altis receives new styling, more comfortable and safer cabin and improved performance. Post GST, the saloon’s petrol model cost between Rs 14.89 lakh – Rs 18.67 lakh (all, ex-showroom Delhi). On the other hand, the diesel models DG (MT) and DGL (MT) are priced at Rs 16.65 lakh and Rs 18.27 lakh (all, ex-showroom Delhi) respectively. Under the hood, the new 2017 Toyota Corolla houses the same 1.8-litre, 4-cylinder 2ZR-FE petrol and a 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder D-4D diesel engine. While the former churns out a maximum power of 138.03bhp at 6400rpm and 173Nm of torque at 4000rpm, the latter one delivers 87.2bhp at 3800rpm and 205Nm between 1800rpm – 2800rpm. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and an optional 7-speed Super CVT gearbox (only on petrol trim). The automatic unit comes with Sport mode and paddle shift. Having said that, the suspension system of the saloon has been updated for better shock absorption and ride quality.

Based on Toyota’s new Under Priority frontal design language, the new 2017 Corolla has more premium and bolder appeal than its predecessor. The facelifted model has Keen Look detailing with more aggressive and sharper front fascia. The sedan features a slimmer grille, new 3D bumper design, Bi-beam LED headlamps with new LED daytime running lights, a wider air dam with three-slat design, re-designed bumper, small fog lamps and revised bonnet.
The side profile has been revised with a pair of newly-designed alloy wheels. Save for the new LED tail-lamp clusters and thinner chrome strip, the rear design of the sedan looks more or less similar to the old model.
