2018 Toyota Camry Unveiled At The Detroit Auto Show

2018 Toyota Camry is based on the TNGA that represents the brand’s new design and engineering approaches.

January 10, 2017 – New-generation Toyota Camry finally made its world debut at the ongoing 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Based on the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture), the 2018 Toyota Camry represents the brand’s new design and engineering approaches. The same platform has been utilized for the new Toyota Prius.

Design of the new Camry looks more premium than the current model. Major updates include a two-piece grille with flowing thin and thick treatments, curvaceous hood, pronounced creases along the flank, sculpted C-pillar, low-angle rear three-quarter view and LED taillight inspired from the new Prius. For 2018, the Camry gets dropped shoulder line below large side windows, slit-like windows, thick-waisted bodies, door-mounted mirrors and tapering trunk. Interior design of the new model is more driver-centric than before. You will notice the high-quality soft touch and premium materials on the dashboard, center console, instrument panel and door trim.

With respect to safety, the new Camry gets 10 standard airbags and a backup camera. The saloon also gets Toyota’s Star Safety System that includes enhanced vehicle stability control, traction control, ABS, EBD, brake assist, and smart stop technology.

The Toyota Safety Sense also comes as standard safety feature that includes several active safety technologies such as pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist and automatic high beams. Features such as blind spot monitor with rear cross traffic alert are offered on the select models.

Power sources for the 2018 Toyota Camry will include a new 3.5-litre V6 with D-4S fuel injection, a new 2.5-litre inline-4 petrol and new-gen Toyota Hybrid System (THSIII). Toyota claims that the all-new 2.5-litre petrol powertrain, benefited with the VVT-iE (Variable Valve-Timing-intelligent electric), delivers the world-leading thermal efficiency of 40%.

Paired with a new Direct Shift-8AT transmission, this motor will deliver high power and torque figures. On the other hand, the 2018 Toyota Camry hybrid is claimed to be offer best-in-class fuel efficiency with improved handling and driving performance.

Set to rival Honda Accord and Hyundai Sonata, the 2018 Toyota Camry’s prices are estimated to be more or less similar to the current model. In the U.S. market, the saloon’s new model will be made available in four grades – LE, XLE, SE and XSE – priced between $20K – $30K.

Commenting on its unveiling, Masato Katsumata, the Chief Engineer of the new Camry, said “The all-new 2018 Camry is, without a doubt, the most captivating mid-size sedan we’ve ever produced,” said Bob Carter, Toyota senior vice president of automotive operations. “It delivers on everything Camry owners have come to expect from America’s best-selling car, and adds to it, jaw-dropping design, more advanced technology, cutting-edge safety systems, and stirring performance that raises it to an unparalleled level of excitement.”

“In order to create something that stirs people’s soul, we’ve laid out the concept of a new sedan that provides fun and excitement behind the wheel. In developing the next-generation Toyota Camry, we were able to start with a clean slate, which allowed us to create a true driver’s car”, he added further.
