New Tata Sedan (1)

We reported earlier that Tata Motors is working on a wide range of new cars. The new models will be based on the new ALFA modular platform, which is compatible to accommodate different body styled and different engine options. A new media report claims that Tata Motors has started working on an all-new sedan. The new Tata sedan is most likely to be a mid-sized sedan.

The new sedan will be based on ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) platform that also underpins the Altroz hatchback and the upcoming Tata HBX micro SUV. The next-gen Tiago, Tigor and the next-gen Tata Nexon will also be developed on the ALFA platform.

The upcoming Tata sedan will feature the IMPACT 2.0 Design Language, which also underpins the Altroz and the Harrier. The styling of the sedan is expected to be inspired by the Altroz and the E-Vision Sedan Concept. The E-Vision sedan was an electric concept, which debuted at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.

Details about the new sedan’s engine specifications are not known. It is likely to receive the 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. The company is also developing a new 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine, which will soon power the Harrier SUV. This engine is also expected to power the upcoming mid-sized sedan. Both manual and automatic versions will be on offer.

The upcoming new Tata sedan will directly rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna and the upcoming Honda City sedan. The exact launch timeline for the new sedan is yet to be announced, but we expect the new model to be introduced in 2021. Besides new sedan, Tata Motors will also launch the production version of the HBX micro SUV and the Gravitas 7-seater SUV.
