New Generation Tata Safari Storme In The Works

Tata Safari Storme 2018

To be based on Tata Motors’ new Utility Vehicle Platform, the new Safari Storme is likely to be launched by the end of 2018 or early 2019

Buoyed by positive initial response for Hexa SUV, Tata Motors is aiming to launch a range of new cars in a next couple of years. The company will launch the Nexon sub-compact SUV to take on soft roaders like Maruti Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport this year. Adding to it, there will be a sub-compact sedan – Kite 5 to be introduced in the next few months. If media reports are to be believed, the homegrown automaker is all set to give a new life to its popular Safari brand in the country. According to the ET Auto, the company is working on the new Tata Safari Storme 2018.

The company will introduce a separate utility vehicle architecture and the same architecture will form the basis for the new generation Safari Storme. As a reminder, Tata is also planning to introduce a premium SUV – Codenamed Q5 – which will be based on the Land Rover platform. This premium SUV will be launched in the Indian car market in 2018. The company’s future cars and urban SUVs will be based on the X4 architecture. Read More – Tata Hexa SUV – All You Need To Know

New Tata Safari Storme 2018 Price In India

The new model will be positioned between the Nexon and the Hexa SUV. The SUV will rival the Hyundai Creta and Mahindra Scorpio, and is likely to be priced in the range of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh.

New Tata Safari Storme 2018 Engine Specifications

The new model is expected to ditch the current 2.2-litre Varicor diesel engine for an all-new powertrain. It is expected that the SUV could get a new 2.0-litre diesel engine. This is the same engine that will be used to power the upcoming Jeep Compass SUV. It is likely to produce around 150bhp of power and 320Nm of torque. The company might also fit the new 1.5-litre diesel engine that will also power the upcoming Nexon compact SUV. Transmission options are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a six-speed automatic unit.

Like the Hexa, the new Safari design inspiration comes from the Impact Design philosophy. The SUV will be designed and developed by Tata Motors’ design studios in UK, Pune and Italy. The SUV will get an all-new exterior design philosophy, keeping the original silhouette. Land Rover will also help the company to develop this SUV. The cabin is expected to be shared with the new Hexa SUV. Features like touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, multi-functional steering wheel, leather seats and others are likely to be sourced from Nexon and Hexa.
