Tata Motors is ready to unveil a new electric SUV concept today (i.e. 6th April, 2022). While the automaker remains tight lipped about the upcoming product, a fresh media report claims that it will be the new Tata Nexon EV Coupe SUV. The teasers reveal that SUV concept will carry aggressively designed front fascia featuring slim DRLs with a strip connecting both units. The concept will also feature triangular shaped lights placed below the DRLs, alloy wheels and raked roof.
The report further states that the Tata Nexon Coupe SUV will be initially made available with electric powertrain only. Details are still under the wraps. Though, it’s likely to come with the 40kWh battery pack that will soon be introduced on the long-range Nexon EV. The updated powertrain will generate more power and torque than the Nexon EV’s existing unit. The latter produces a peak power of 129bhp and 245Nm.
The home-grown automaker might offer the Tata Nexon Coupe SUV with a 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine at a later stage. The same motor is reported to be introduced on the Nexon’s regular model lineup. The new gasoline unit will comply with the upcoming BS6 Stage 2 standards.
The new Tata Nexon EV Coupe SUV will essentially be the stretched version of the Nexon with coupe stance. The model will be designed on the same X1 platform that underpins the Nexon subcompact SUV. The new Tata Coupe concept is likely to look similar to its donor sibling till B-pillar. It will have longer rear doors, tapering roof and a larger overhang. Compared to the regular Nexon, the Coupe SUV is likely to have more legroom for the rear seat passengers and boot space. If report is to be believed, the Nexon electric Coupe SUV will sit on 50mm (approx.) longer wheelbase than its sub-4 metre sibling. Its length will stand at 4.3 metre.
The production-ready version new Tata electric Coupe SUV won’t come before 2024. Here, it will be positioned against the Mahindra’s upcoming XUV900 Coupe SUV that’s reported to arrive sometime in 2024.
