The Gujarat based Suzuki’s plant currently has a production capacity of 2.5 lakh units annually. The company will start two new units by the end of 2020, which will increase the capacity to 7.5 lakh annually.

The new generation Maruti Swift is based on the new generation Suzuki’s platform that also underpins the new Dzire. It is claimed to be 100kgs lighter than the outgoing model, which makes it more fuel efficient. The hatchback will be powered by the same set of engines – a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.3-litre MJD diesel. The company could launch the sportier RS version of the hatchback, which will be powered by a 1.0-litre Boosterjet engine producing 100bhp and 150Nm of torque.
