India’s largest car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki is aiming to further increase its market share in the growing Indian auto industry. The company is set to launch the highly-anticipated Ciaz sedan in the first week of October. Suzuki is currently selling sporty Swift hatchback globally, but the Indian model is more family oriented. Now, the company is set to bring the global sportier version of the Swift in the country in 2015 or early 2016.

The fourth generation of Swift hatchback will be designed at Maruti’s Manesar plant with inputs from the boffins, which means a sportier Swift is on cards for the Indian market. Moreover, the vehicle will be developed keeping Indian buyers requirements in mind.

The new Suzuki Swift is expected to be powered by all new 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine, which is currently under development phase. The new engine is likely to be based on the 800cc twin cylinder diesel motor that will power the Celerio hatchback. The petrol version will continue to be powered by the K-Next series of engine; however, the engines will be tuned to offer better performance and power.

If media reports are to be believed, Maruti Suzuki is following the foot-steps of Hyundai, Honda and Volkswagen. The company will sell the Ritz hatchback to appeal to the family-oriented and economy-conscious buyer. It is expected that the new Swift to come loaded with advanced features in order to compete well against the likes of Hyundai Elite i20, new VW’s Polo and upcoming Honda Jazz.

Maruti Suzuki India is also planning to launch the Swift facelift in the country during the festive season. It is also expected that the updated Swift would also get automatic transmission and some added features.
