New Skoda SUV Confirmed For India; To Challenge Tata Harrier

The new Skoda SUV will take on the Hyundai Creta and the upcoming Tata Harrier.

The Czech Republic carmaker, Skoda Auto has confirmed a new SUV for the Indian market. Scheduled to hit roads in 2020, the new Skoda SUV will come under Volkswagen Group’s India 2.0 plan that was revealed in June, 2018. The first step towards the turnaround plans for India, Skoda will take over the development of the small car MQB A0 platform and its Indian version will be named MQB-A0-IN.

The MQB-A0-IN architecture will meet the upcoming crash test regulations that will be enforced in 2020. It will also be well-adapted to Indian climatic condition, local market requirements and standards. Skoda has also confirmed that its new SUV will be based on this new heavily localized platform. Skoda Vision X Concept Picture Gallery

Details of the new Skoda SUV are still under the wraps. Though, it likely to be based on the Skoda Vision X concept that was first previewed at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2018. The production-ready version of the concept (in the form India-bound new Skoda SUV) will have its world premiere at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. The new Skoda SUV for India is likely to share some of its design bits and features with Volkswagen T-Cross SUV that will also make its way to India in 2020. The overall length of the SUV is likely to be around 4.19m and its wheelbase will stand around 2.65m. Inside, the car might get a T-Cross inspired digital instrument. For power, the new Skoda SUV might use a heavily-localized 1.0L TDI petrol engine generating power worth 115bhp. The carmaker might also offer the factory-fitted CNG kit with the SUV.  In the Indian market, the new Skoda SUV will be stacked up against the Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster. The upcoming cars like Tata Harrier and Nissan Kicks will also give a tough fight to the vehicle.
