In order to improve its sales, Skoda India has launched the updated version of its top selling car- Rapid in the country. The company is aiming to capitalize on the growing demand for cars in the country during festive season. The new Rapid gets minimal changes to both interiors and exteriors, but the major change is given to its engine specifications. The new Skoda Rapid is priced at Rs. 7.22 lakh.
The Rapid facelift largely resembles the previous model; however, the vehicle gets subtle upgrades to keep things fresh. It is equipped with newly styled alloy wheels and 15-inch steel wheels instead of 14-inch in previous model. Moreover, the vehicle also gets a new special Black Edition. This model comes with an extra cost and is equipped with several added equipment. It is equipped with blackened smoked out headlamps, fog lamps and black coloured ORVMs. The flared wheel arches of the car have been fitted to special 12-inch black alloy wheels.
The new Skoda Rapid is now available in six exterior shades such as Brilliant Silver, Candy White, Cappuccino Beige, Deep Black Pearl, Flash Red and new Toffee Brown.
Inside the cabin, the sedan features brown and beige colour scheme. Its fit and finish and material quality is top notch. The top-spec Ambition Plus and Elegance variants of the car are equipped with cruise control and magnetic card holder to hold toll tickets. It also features parking sensors, new iOS5 and Android based phone application for the rear occupants. There is chrome inserts on the interior door handles, centre console, gearshift selector, AC vents, steering wheel, etc. The vehicle sports 2-DIN audio system, USB and AUX-in, SD/MMC card and multi-functional steering wheel.
Under the bonnet is the new 1.5-litre TDI motor that also powers the new Vento and Polo. This engine is basically a stripped down version of the 1.6-litre motor powering the previous model. The new motor is capable of producing a top power output of 105PS and 150Nm of torque. This engine is paired to both five-speed manual and seven-speed automatic transmission. The petrol version gets 1.6-litre MPFI engine that produces 105bhp and 153Nm of torque. The manual petrol version delivers 15kmpl of mileage, while the automatic variant returns 14.3kmpl. Its oil burner offers 21.14kmpl of fuel efficiency, while the automatic diesel variant offers slightly improved mileage of 21.66kmpl.
