Skoda Auto India’s Direct of Sales, Service and Marketing, Zac Hollis confirmed that the new Skoda Octavia sedan will be launched in the country within the next two months. The new model will be launched before the much-awaited Skoda Kushaq mid-sized SUV, which will make public debut on March 18, 2021.
The new Skoda Octavia will be offered with a petrol engine only. The sedan is expected to be powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that churns out 187bhp of power and 320Nm of torque. The same powertrain will also power the updated Kodiaq SUV, which is scheduled to be introduced before the end of this year. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
The entry-level variants could also receive the 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which also powers the Skoda Karoq and the Kushaq. This engine is capable of producing 147bhp of maximum power and 250Nm of torque. A 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox driving the power to the front wheels will come as standard.
The new Skoda Octavia was first unveiled in November 2019. The sedan received major changes in terms of design, size and interior. It is 19mm longer and 15mm wider; however, the wheelbase remains the same at 2,686mm. The sedan features the familiar design with more aggressive elements. It comes with a prominent butterfly grille with chrome surround and single-piece headlamp with integrated LED DRLs.
The new Octavia will ride on newly developed 17-inch alloy wheels. Other design highlights include split LED tail-lamps, SKODA lettering on the tailgate and sloping roofline. The sedan gets a new 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with connected car technology with eSIM functionality and Skoda’s Smartlink+. The new model gets new and sleeker two-spoke steering wheel and an all-new 10.25-inch virtual cockpit digital instrument console. For safety and security, the sedan has 8 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC and traction control.
