Mahindra & Mahindra, the homegrown UV Maker is planning to launch a range of new SUVs in the Indian market in the next 2 years. The company is also considering a seven-seater premium SUV to challenge the likes of Toyota Fortuner & Ford Endeavour. If media reports are to be believed, Mahindra will launch the all-new G4 SsangYong Rexton in the Indian market in the second half of 2018.
According to ACI, Mahindra is seriously evaluating the feasibility of the new Rexon SUV for the Indian market from a cost perspective. Speaking to ACI, Pawan Goenka, managing director of M&M said, “We need to understand what the price positioning of the Rexton is and whether can afford to bring it at that price,”. “If it is feasible then it should take us around a year to launch it in India,” he added.
Additionally, Rajan Wadhera, president at Mahindra & Mahindra R&D and Global Product Development confirmed that the Rexton 7-seater SUV has got the green light for launch in India. He added that the costs are still a challenge, but Mahindra has decided to launch this SUV in India.

Mahindra will locally assemble this SUV in India to achieve aggressive pricing. However, powertrain and body panels of the Rexton will be imported from Korean suppliers. Based on body-on-frame chassis, the new Rexton SUV is 4.8 meters in length. Powering the SUV is a 2.2-litre diesel engine that is good for 187bhp and 420Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic versions of the SUV will be on offer.
Previous reports suggest that this SUV could be sold under Mahindra badge. Adding to it, the SUV could be called Mahindra XUV700. In India, we believe this SUV could be priced in the range of Rs 20 lakh to Rs 25 lakh, undercutting its closest rival by up to 4-5 lakh.
