New Renault 7-Seater MPV – What We Know So Far

Renault RBC MPV

The new Renault RBC 7-seater MPV will be launched in H2, 2019.

In October 2017, Renault had announced its Drive the Future strategy that includes launch of 21 new models by 2022. Out of 21 new products, 8 will be electric vehicles and 12 will be hybrid cars. For the Indian market, the French carmaker confirmed an affordable, sub-4 metre MPV that’s currently in its testing phase.

Codenamed RBC, the new Renault MPV will be designed on the CMF-A (Common Module Family Architecture) platform developed jointly with Nissan. The same architecture underpins the highly-popular Renault Kwid hatchback. The company says that the CMF-A platform is quite flexible and enables manufacturer to make changes in the body style and powertrain. It also helps keep a check on manufacturing cost and achieve competitive product pricing.  Read: 6 Interesting Facts About New Renault Duster

Reports suggest that the company might modify the CMF-A (called CMF-A+) for longer wheelbase and accommodate a third row seats. Despite measuring sub-4-metre in length, the new Renault MPV is likely to offer decent cabin space for seven occupants. In terms of styling, the Renault RBC MPV might share some of its bits with Kwid hatchback. Check Out – Renault Kwid Based Compact SUV Might Look Like This!

Speculations are on rife that the Renault RBC MPV might source its powertrain from the Kwid hatchback – i.e. 1.0L 12V petrol. This gasoline, however, could be tuned and benefited with a turbocharger.

The new Renault 7-seater MPV will lock horns against the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Mahindra Marazzo. With heavy localization and affordable CMF-A platform, the RBC is estimated to be priced between Rs 7 lakh – Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). The vehicle is scheduled to launch in H2, 2019.
