New Nissan SUV To Challenge Venue and Vitara Brezza

Nissan subcompact SUV

The Japanese carmaker entered into the compact SUV space with the Kicks earlier this year. Now, the company is planning to tap the growing subcompact SUV segment with an all-new model. According to a fresh media report, the new Nissan subcompact SUV will hit showrooms by the end of 2020.

In the sub-4 metre segment, the new Nissan SUV will take head-to-head against the multiple cars such as Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport and Mahindra XUV300 along with the upcoming offerings from Kia and Renault. Prices of the new Nissan SUV are expected to start from Rs 6.5 lakh (ex-showroom).

The new Nissan subcompact SUV will be designed on the CMF-A (Common Module Family) platform. This modular architecture has been developed jointly by Nissan and Renault via their Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. The same platform will underpin the upcoming Renault HBC subcompact SUV that’s due for mid 2020.

Engine is likely to be borrowed from the Renault Triber – i.e. 1.0L Energy petrol.  The gasoline unit makes power worth 71bhp with 96Nm of torque. Reports suggest that the MPV will receive the more powerful turbocharged version of the existing petrol motor.

The more powerful Triber will see a release sometime next year. The same turbo motor might be used in the new Nissan subcompact SUV. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and an AMT (automated manual transmission) unit.
