Nissan India To Launch A New Car In Every Six Months

The Japanese carmaker, Nissan will launch a new product in every six months in the Indian market. The company also aims to achieve five per cent market share in the domestic market by 2020-21. It will also expand its sales and dealership network across the country, especially in Tier II and III cities. Currently, Nissan has 272 sales and service outlets across 220 cities. The new Nissan cars that will hit Indian roads in next two-three years will include the Kicks compact SUV, the Leaf electric hatchback and the Datsun Go Cross crossover. The Nissan Kicks will be the first model to roll out from the stable of the Japanese carmaker. In Nissan’s Indian produce lineup, the Kicks compact SUV will sit above the Nissan Terrano and takes on the Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster/Captur. The vehicle will share its engine and platform with the Duster. Engine setup of the India-spec Kicks will include the naturally aspirated petrol and a turbocharged diesel unit. Price of the SUV is likely to start from 8 lakh (ex-showroom).

Nissan India will also foray into the electric vehicle space with the new Leaf electric hatchback. Scheduled to launch this fiscal year, the new-generation Leaf is Nissan’s first autonomous electric production car to get ProPILOT park semi-autonomous technology. In India, the hatchback will be imported via CBU (completely built unit) route, and is estimated to be priced over Rs 35 lakh.

Datsun, Nissan’s low-cost brand, will also bring in the Go Cross that will be stacked up against the Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon and Honda WR-V. Engine options of the crossover will include a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel producing 76bhp with 104Nm and 63.1bhp with 160Nm respectively.
