New Maruti Wagon R To Get Powerful 1.2L Petrol Engine – Rumour

New Maruti WagonR 2019

The next-gen Maruti Wagon R’s new ZXi variant will receive an automated manual transmission

Maruti Suzuki will officially launch the new-generation WagonR hatchback on January 23, 2019. The tall-boy hatchback has been spotted several times while testing on Indian roads. If latest media report is to be believed, the next-gen Maruti Wagon R will receive a new top-spec ZXi variant along with an automated manual transmission (AMT) variant. Called the ZXi AGS, this variant is also likely to get a new 1.2-litre petrol engine.

The report further claims that the next-gen Maruti Wagon R’s base variants – LXi and VXi – will continue to feature the existing 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine. This engine churns out 67bhp of power and 91Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual gearbox driving the power to the front-wheels will come as standard. The automated manual transmission is likely to be offered in the ZXi and ZXi AGS variants.

It was speculated that new-gen WagonR will be based on the new Suzuki’s Heartect platform. However, media reports suggest that the new model will use the modified version of the existing platform. The new model will be sold through regular Arena dealerships. Also See – Upcoming Maruti Suzuki Cars In India

The 2019 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R will have different design theme compared to the global model, which is already on sale in Japan. The hatchback will retain the signature tall-boy design. It is expected to offer more interior space than the outgoing model. The tall-boy hatchback comes with a redesigned exterior featuring large wraparound headlamps, new grille and bumpers. At the back, the hatchback will have vertically stacked tail-lamp clusters. The top-spec model will also receive a SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system, which will be compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
