2020 Maruti Vitara Brezza Review

Details about the new Maruti Vitara Brezza are yet to be revealed, but it is likely to be based on the modified version of the existing Global C platform which will also underpin the new-gen Vitara. Suzuki and Toyota JV is also reportedly readying a new mid-sized SUV, which will be based on the Toyota’s DNGA (Daihatsu New Global Architecture). This platform currently underpins the Toyota Raize and the Daihatsu Rocky. In fact, the next-gen Toyota Avanza is also expected to be based on the same platform.

The new Brezza is likely to be offered with a BSVI compliant petrol engine only. However, the diesel version could join the line-up at a later stage in 2022. The current model is powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that is capable of producing 104bhp of power and 138Nm of torque. Transmission choices includes a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic. The company could also introduce a new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which is reportedly under development.

The diesel version could receive the BSVI compliant 1.5-litre DDiS diesel engine, which earlier offered with the Ertiga and the S-Cross in BS4 version. In the BS4 form, this engine offers 94bhp of power and 225Nm of torque. The new Vitara Brezza will rival the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon and others in the category.

Maruti Suzuki is also reportedly working on multiple new SUVs including a Baleno based urban crossover, a new crossover above the Vitara Brezza, 5-door Jimny and an all-new mid-sized SUV. The new mid-sized SUV wll be positioned against the likes of the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos.
