The Indo-Japanese passenger carmaker, Maruti Suzuki has some really exciting products scheduled for its buyers. According to a latest Autocar report, the company is planning to bring in an all-new cross-hatch. The new Maruti small car will be a direct rival to the Renault Kwid that has hampered the Alto’s sales ever since its launch in 2015. Attributes that worked in the favour of the Kwid are its crossover-ish design, feature-loaded cabin, efficient engine and the most importantly aggressive pricing.
Aiming to challenge the Renault Kwid, Maruti Suzuki will bring-in a cross-hatch that is rumoured to be based on the Crosshiker concept. First previewed at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2013, the Crosshiker concept represents the company’s futuristic design approach for mini crossovers. Although the design details of the new Maruti small car are still under the wraps, we expect it to feature SUV-like upright design and a high ground clearance. There are rumours that this new cross-hatch might share its engine with the current Maruti cars – 800cc or 1.0-litre petrol.
The report further says that the new Maruti small car will not be a direct replacement to the Alto. This means, it will be sold alongside the Alto. Just so you know, the company is also working on the new-generation Alto that might see a release sometime next year.

Maurti’s new A-segment cross-hatch might have its world premiere at the 2018 Auto Expo. Since the company hasn’t yet confirmed anything about the product, it would be quite early to comment on its India launch.
