The much-awaited 2018 Maruti Ciaz facelift is all set to go on sale in India in August, 2018. In fact, Maruti has started teasing the facelifted model on its social media platforms. Moreover, production of the updated model has already been commenced at the company’s Manesar based plant. It was speculated that the new Ciaz will receive a new petrol engine along with the existing 1.3L MJD diesel engine. However, recent media report suggests that the Ciaz facelift will only come in petrol form.

Report further claims that only Maruti Ciaz petrol hybrid variants will start reaching dealerships from August 10, 2018. The company will only announce the prices of petrol model at the launch. Diesel model is likely to be launched on a later stage.

Maruti Ciaz Facelift Teased

In the recent past, sales of diesel equipped mid-sized sedans have dropped significantly. Earlier Ciaz enjoyed a 60:40 petrol:diesel ratio, which is further slipped to 80:20 last year since the government cut down the excise benefits on hybrids. This leads to drastic increase of Ciaz diesel prices. Toyota Yaris is the other sedan in its category that comes devoid of diesel option. Also See- Upcoming Maruti Suzuki Cars In India

However, Maruti is not planning to discontinue Ciaz diesel altogether. Speaking to media, RS Kalsi, Maruti Suzuki’s senior executive director, marketing & sales, said, “No, we don’t plan to discontinue because there are customers who are hardcore diesel lovers as well and diesel certainly has its own advantages of higher fuel efficiency, higher calorific value, more power. So we’ll continue with the diesel engine.” Also See – Maruti Ciaz facelift – 6 changes you can expect

The 2018 Maruti Ciaz will be the first car to feature petrol hybrid system in its category. It will be powered by a newly developed 1.5-litre petrol engine coupled with Suzuki’s mild-hybrid system – SHVS. This engine is capable of producing 104bhp of power and 138Nm of torque.
