New Maruti Alto 800 diesel variant might be showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo that will be held in early February. The company will also unveil its first-ever compact SUV – Vitara Brezza – at the show. The Alto’s new model will be more fuel-efficient than the regular petrol version. Along with this, it will also see lot of changes in terms of features and styling.
Currently, the hatchback is available in petrol and CNG fuel options, and is claimed to return an ARAI certified mileage of 22kmpl. It is expected that the fuel efficiency will go up to 28kmpl in the Alto’s new diesel model.

Here’s Everything You Should Know About Maruti Baleno
The hatchback’s new model, with improved mileage and additional features, is likely to be priced around Rs. 3.6 lakh to INR 4.5 lakh (ex-showroom). If launched at this price, it will become the most affordable diesel car in India.
The Maruti Suzuki Alto diesel is expected to feature a 793cc, twin-cylinder DDiS engine that currently powers the Celerio hatchback. Just so you know, the Celerio is claimed to be India’s most fuel efficient car with an ARAI certified mileage of 27.62kmpl. And with a slightly less kerb weight and smaller dimensions, the Maruti Alto diesel model might return even better mileage. If this happens, the Alto 800 diesel will replace its sibling, and become the most frugal car of the country.
According to reports, the company might also introduce an optional automated manual transmission (AMT) on the vehicle that will take on the Renault Kwid AMT. The vehicle’s regular petrol is propelled by a 796cc 3-cylinder engine that develops 48bhp of power at 6,000rpm and 69Nm of torque at 3,500rpm. Power is transmitted to front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox.
Since the hatchback’s current model misses out on the driver-side airbag and anti-lock braking system (ABS), the new model might receive both these safety equipment as standard on the range-topping variant. Besides this, the vehicle will receive some exterior and interior updates. While features like metallic finish 3-spoke steering wheel, audio system with USB and Aux in connectivity, air conditioner with heater, power windows and remote back door opener will be carried forward from the outgoing model.
