Maruti Suzuki is preparing a wide range of new models including the new Baleno, new Brezza, updated WagonR & Ertiga and an all-new mid-sized SUV. The company is also testing the new generation Alto entry-level hatchback. The new Maruti Alto will come with all-new design and upgraded interior along with mechanical changes.

New Platform

The new generation Alto hatchback will be based on the lightweight HEARTECT platform that underpins the S-Presso, new Celerio and the WagonR. The platform will be modified with better quality steel for improved safety.

Design Changes

The spy images reveal that the new Maruti Alto 2022 will grow in size, as it appears longer, wider and taller than the outgoing model. The new model looks like a tall-boy hatchback with some design similarities with latest Celerio. The front fascia of the new Alto will be completely re-designed, featuring a larger grille and newly designed, sweptback headlamps.

The new model will have a sculpted bonnet, while the front looks flat and bigger than the current car. The side profile looks simple and it looks significantly taller than the outgoing model. The rear design has also been completely changed. It gets a pair of rectangular headlamps, newly designed bumper and a larger tailgate.

The new Alto is likely to come with big changes inside the cabin. It is expected to come with an all-new dashboard and central console design. The hatchback is likely to receive modern features such as a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, a semi-digital instrument console, keyless entry, engine start/stop button and others.

New Maruti Alto Engine Option

The new Maruti Alto is likely to receive a new K10C Dualjet 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine with idle start/stop system. This engine is capable of producing 67bhp and 89Nm of torque. It will also come with the 796cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine that is good for 47bhp and 69Nm of torque. Both manual and AMT gearboxes will be on offer. The hatchback is also likely to come with CNG version.

Launch Timeline

The new Alto is currently in its testing phase and is expected to take few months before launching in the market. If reports are to be believed, the new Maruti Alto will be launched during festive season around Diwali.
