New Mahindra XUV500 Launch By July-August – Confirmed by CEO

Previous reports claim that the second generation Mahindra XUV500 launch has been pushed to September 2021. However, Mahindra is yet to make an official announcement on the same. Speaking to Powerdrift, Mahindra Auto CEO, Veejay Nakra has confirmed that the new Mahindra XUV500 will be launched between the Q2 and Q2 calender year 2021.

This suggests that the new Mahindra XUV500 could be launched around July-August 2021, which is mid-2021. The SUV will be launched during festive season, before Diwali. After XUV500, Mahindra will introduce the new generation Scorpio. Veejay Nakra didn’t reveal the launch timeline for the new Scorpio; however, a possible launch during Diwali can’t be ignored. The launch of the new Mahindra SUVs could be delayed due to the global shortage of semiconductors.

The second generation Mahindra XUV500 will be based on the new front-wheel-drive monocoque platform. The SUV is reportedly to be equipped with ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), which will offer features like  autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, front collision warning, lane departure warning and park assist, etc. The SUV will also be benefitted with high-end safety and security features such as multiple airbags, front and rear parking sensors, 360 degree camera, ESP and a tyre pressure monitor.

In terms of features, the new XUV500 will receive a large touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, connected car tech, a digital instrument console, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, keyless entry with push-button start/stop, etc.

The new Mahindra XUV500 will be offered with two engine options – a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel.  While the former is tuned to produce up to 190bhp of power and over 350Nm of torque, the diesel engine is likely to offer around 180bhp of power. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
